A year in the making

Oh dear, I have such good intentions to maintain the updates and then that plan falls apart. I completed two more courses last year with kept me busy until the new school year started. The courses result in me getting writing fatigue. I can go for a month without turning my computer on.

I loved being back in the schools. I was very lucky to have employment from the first day of the school year. I started at the Catholic … Read the rest

The Keir’s lockdown update

Hi Family and Friends,

Wow, this year has been an interesting one. We started it off with Gran staying for 5 weeks over the Christmas period. Thank goodness she was here for the winter because the Summer 2020 holiday would not have been possible now. She was a dream to have and missed having the fairy in the basement doing the laundry while we slept :-P. While she was staying, I sneaked off to meet D in the USA for … Read the rest

Mental ramblings on a train

Sitting on the train to Montreal today, I was looking out the window thinking about how beautiful this country is. I have this thought at least once a week. I asked myself “Why do I feel that this countries beauty surpasses the beauty of South Africa?”. Really it doesn’t because SA is stunning and there are some areas that show up Canada’s beauty. So why do I look at Canada’s countryside and feel like my soul has found its happy place … Read the rest

Hockey!

One of the “Canadian” things we identified as something we would like to do was to watch some of the local sport, specifically hockey. This is of course, ice hockey in Canada. Toronto’s NHL team is the Toronto Maple Leafs, but we soon found out that NHL tickets are excessively expensive (even by Canadian standards!).

We decided to support the Toronto AHL(American Hockey League) team instead, the Toronto Marlies. The AHL is one division down from NHL, and Marlies is … Read the rest

Montreal and Winterlude (Ottawa)

The last two weeks have been very busy and exciting. I passed my driver’s test on the 1st February. I am now the designated driver, as Duncan is no longer allowed to drive on his international license. Duncan had a presentation in Montreal on the 15th and Ant and Marg had gone to visit Ann in Halifax. This then led to us needing to cat sit our child at their house, and due to our lease starting on the 17th … Read the rest

One month in

So this isn’t really a letter. This is a reflection on my feelings and thoughts. We have been here just over a month and do not regret this decision at all. I mentioned before that I would touch on my feelings at a later stage. I anticipated I would feel a great deal more broken and upset about this move when it actually arrived. Sometimes you have to admit you don’t know yourself as well as you think. I think … Read the rest

To Ottawa and beyond

Hi again

We moved into our Airbnb on the 12th December. The first 4 days were a bit of a blur, as I suffered from Jetlag from the 3rd day. I got really dizzy and felt hung over, even though I was getting enough sleep. It started dissipating from Friday. I got a lift to Ottawa with Diana and her Fiancé Paul. I stayed with Ant and Marg until just after Christmas. The weather turned cold over the … Read the rest

And the adventure begins!

Dear Friends and family

The last two weeks have been an absolute whirlwind. We moved out of our home on November 30th and moved in with our awesome friend Meg who put us up for the last week of work. It was a strange feeling walking away from everything we have built together. Over all I have not found that I got as emotional as I expected myself to get. More on that later. The last week was really … Read the rest
